About this event

12-Factor Overview

Developing applications is tough. Especially in the ever-changing environments. We have local development. QA validation. Pre-prod/staging. Production. But, how do we ensure our applications work the same everywhere? While containers help out, they aren't the only thing to keep in mind. The folks at Heroku, in 2011, published "The Twelve-Factor App", which has become the standard for building cloud-native applications.

Over the next several events, we're going to talk about the various points and what they might look like in a containerized world, including many additional tools and services in the ecosystem.

Automated Software Testing Made Easy with Docker

Kevin Cupp is a local software developer and works for EllisLab and Mindsense. At EllisLabs, he contributes to ExpressionEngine, a powerful CMS supporting many large companies, including Starbucks, Toyota, Disney, and the 2008 Obama and 2016 Trump campaigns! And at Mindsense, he’s contributing to and supporting Throttle and Mail Pilot, two innovative products to help you be more productive with email and focus on what’s important.

He will be discussing how Docker helped foster a practice of automated testing in his team and shares the challenges encountered along the way. Should be a great time!

About the Docker Blacksburg Meetup

The Blacksburg Docker chapter is a friendly group of developers and engineers from various industries across the New River Valley. Our members span the experience spectrum from beginners (midshipmen?) to a Docker Captain. We meet monthly to learn from each other and share tips, troubles, and triumphs with Docker.
