For the Docker 101 session - we're diving into container images! What actually are images? How can we reduce the amount of junk in our final images? How can we build images faster using build caches? The answers to these questions (and more) will be revealed!
Intermission - we'll have some food and a chance to network
For the advanced session - we will be hearing from Russ Fenn, a web app and infrastructure team leader at VT who manages a menagerie of container and legacy applications. He will be introducing us to Prometheus, an open-source project found in the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). He will be talking about how Prometheus, and a host of related tools can help us gain insight into the performance and health of our services, and how they can tell us when things go wrong.
Location - we will be meeting at Modea HQ. The Modea office is located in downtown Blacksburg in Kent Square. The best places to park are in the Kent Square Parking garage or on Draper Road (parking is free on Draper after 5:00 PM, and $1/hour in the garage). If you park in the garage, come down to the first floor of Kent Square to the lobby, and the office is located there. If parking on the street, enter Kent Square from either the Main Street or Washington Street entrance. All attendees will need to sign-in on the iPad located outside the office, and can enter "Brian Walter" as the contact person.
