Getting a reliable and robust deployment of bare metal machines is usually the first step to actually using them. (I know right.) The goal of this month's meet-up is to learn how to get your bare metal to run: docker-engine, deploy docker swarm mode automatically, and deploy some monitoring for those containers on bare metal. Joe Kaiser, Director of Open Source Engineering at StackIQ, will show off the open source answer to getting this done, reliably, repeatably, and quickly on CentOS 7 with discussion about other OSs.
We'll do a live demo of Docker Community Edition (17.03.0) with Docker Swarm mode baked in (installs and validates nodes and masters automatically) and is TLS protected. Without swarm mode, Docker runs with TLS certs on every backend and is available to accept Docker images. While installing Docker has gotten easier, deploying Docker Swarm Mode automatically has a few tricks to get it working properly, and we'll show how we handled these as an example for your own deployments.
These may not be tools you ultimately use, but it's a good introduction into what it takes to deploy bare metal and Docker.
