Blue-Green Deployment is a strategy to release a new version of the app without downtime. The basic idea behind this technique involves using two identical production environments, named Blue and Green. At any time, only one of these environments is serving the production traffic, and the other is used to test the newer version or for roll-back.
In this workshop, we will build and perform a blue-green deployment system using Docker. We will create and control a cluster of nodes with Docker Swarm. We will build a Blue-Green deployment docker image that creates two environments, each running different versions of the same test app. We will also see how to switch the live environment without any downtime.

I was born and raised in Jamaica, a small island filled with talents and potential for producing world-class athletes, singers, writers and other professions. Before 2008, I did not know much about computers, but I knew I loved maths and solving problems. In 2011, my freshman year at the University of the West Indies, I was introduced to programming and Python. Afterwards, I set sail to meet the Horizon by contributing to open-source projects such as PHP Curl, Dubbizle PHP, Pyramid, Kotti, ERPNext, Plone and many others.
It has been three years now since I started to work for David Bain at his company, Alteroo, where I take on the role of a full stack software developer / DevOps in the area of Digital CX using Plone, Kotti and other frameworks. My aim alongside Alteroo is to provide a seamless end-to-end experience for the stakeholders of any system we develop. Thus, making it easier for clients and other developers to work faster with no hassle. On the side, I write UAT / robot tests, performance and load tests to ensure that any code I write is of high quality and is maintainable.
On a daily basis, I watch and read tech-related news and events. I am always looking out for what is next and how to improve existing technologies and techniques. Keep moving forward is my motto, and technology is one of the only ways I see to do so.
WHAT I DO?
I provide private coaching for SaaS teams on:
a) Increasing their deployment frequency
b) Decreasing their lead time for changes
c) Decreasing their outage frequency
d) Decreasing their code change failure rate
WHY IT WORKS: At IThance, we exclusively work with SaaS teams that are completely frustrated with their status quo. By helping them meet these objectives they thoroughly increase their operational throughput as well as product stability.
Teams with these four metrics optimised are 1.53 times more likely to meet or exceed their goals as a company.
HOW IT WORKS: The first step to learn how I can be of service is by scheduling a complimentary 45 Minute Strategy Session. During this call, we will explore your needs and goals and determine if I can make a positive impact on your bottom line. If you are chronically plagued with service outages and your team is pulling frequent all-nighters, I will provide a high-level RoadMap that can be actioned to propel you forward.
