Join us for the Kingston local edition of this summer Play-with-Docker workshop series!
Let’s face it: nobody gets into IT so they can maintain legacy apps. We dream about innovation and about changing the world, but 80% of IT budgets are spent maintaining existing systems and “just keeping the lights on.” The massive cost of maintenance doesn’t leave much room to innovate.
By “containerizing” existing apps, you can realize immediate savings (in time, money, and other resources), so you can allocate more of your budget toward innovation. Moving an application to Docker doesn't mean you have to re-write your whole application. In this hands-on technical lab, we'll containerize an older, monolithic application without changing any code. And you'll see the benefit of running it on Docker. Then in a few simple steps, we'll build additional services in separate containers, breaking features out of the monolith into separate containers, without rewriting the app.
Join us to learn how to leverage containers in your organization. We’ll discuss the benefits of Docker/containers and microservices architecture, and share a live demo – containerizing an existing app and re-deploying on Docker in a matter of minutes.
Bring your laptop and #LearnDocker. Food and drinks will be provided! Let everyone know you’re coming by using #LearnDocker.
I was born and raised in Jamaica, a small island filled with talents and potential for producing world-class athletes, singers, writers and other professions. Before 2008, I did not know much about computers, but I knew I loved maths and solving problems. In 2011, my freshman year at the University of the West Indies, I was introduced to programming and Python. Afterwards, I set sail to meet the Horizon by contributing to open-source projects such as PHP Curl, Dubbizle PHP, Pyramid, Kotti, ERPNext, Plone and many others.
It has been three years now since I started to work for David Bain at his company, Alteroo, where I take on the role of a full stack software developer / DevOps in the area of Digital CX using Plone, Kotti and other frameworks. My aim alongside Alteroo is to provide a seamless end-to-end experience for the stakeholders of any system we develop. Thus, making it easier for clients and other developers to work faster with no hassle. On the side, I write UAT / robot tests, performance and load tests to ensure that any code I write is of high quality and is maintainable.
On a daily basis, I watch and read tech-related news and events. I am always looking out for what is next and how to improve existing technologies and techniques. Keep moving forward is my motto, and technology is one of the only ways I see to do so.
From meetups to DockerCon and webinars to workshops, there are lots of great Docker events happening around the world. Whether you're new to containers or a Docker expert, you'll find opportunities to attend Docker events near you!RSVP
