Hello my fellow Dockerites!
I am happy to announce the line-up for the next Docker Meetup. This is going to be a special edition as we are going to be celebrating Docker Bday #6! It’s also the mark of my 1-year anniversary of being your friendly neighbourhood Docker Community Leader! And what a year it has been… I’ve met so many awesome people, did so many cool things and I have absolutely loved every session I’ve had with you all :) Onwards to many more years!
The Birthday theme this year is “How do YOU #Docker?” and we’ll be doing something fun, after all you celebrate your birthday with friends right?
This months’ event will be hosted by our friends over at Monzo. Lewis, Ivan and Elton will be doing a talk for you, and if you are currently using Docker and would like to showcase it to the group, please fill out the form at http://docker.london/getinvolved (all will be revealed in due time)
Lewis Denham-Parry (@denhamparry)
> State of the Union Address
Docker is now 6 years old, but what is there to celebrate? Should we be writing a card, queueing up for a slice of cake and get a party bag on the way out? Or should we be going to the other containerization party on the other side of town?
This talk is looking back to see what Docker has done for us and to help see where it can help us in the future. Also, is there something else that we could be celebrating, rather than just Dockers milestone?
Lewis is the co-founder of Cloud Native Wales as well as consultant, speaker, trainer for @learnk8s and kitchen fitter. He started off as a Windows developer in the financial sector but now focuses on containers and orchestration. Work has taken Lewis to beautiful cities such as Dublin, New York and Hollywood and left it all for Cardiff. When not throwing things around in his home office, he can be found walking his dog and playing lego with his family.
Ivan Pedrazas (@ipedrazas)
> Using Kubernetes
Ivan has been running Kubernetes in production for the last 4 years for different companies. During this talk, he will cover what he thinks are the important aspects of running applications on top of Kubernetes. This talk is a mix of best practices, irony, architecture, sarcasm and application development. This talk will cover the basics of how to install (securely), how to deploy (securely) and how to run applications on Kubernetes. He may or may not wear a costume.
Ivan has a background on development and architecture and works as a Solution Architect building distributed systems. He's not a dinosaur, even there are rumours that contradict this statement.
Elton Stoneman - Docker (@eltonstoneman)
> Just what is a service mesh, and if I get one will it make everything OK?
Communication is the backbone of distributed applications. Imagine you could control that backbone independently of all the components, so your application code just makes simple calls to other services, and your communication backbone does all the complex non-functional work. Load balancing, traffic management, fault tolerance, end-to-end monitoring, dynamic routing and secure communication could all be applied and controlled centrally. That's a service mesh.
Elton is a Pluralsight Author, Microsoft MVP and Developer Advocate at Docker. He’s been architecting and delivering successful solutions with Microsoft technologies since 2000, most recently Big Data and API implementations in Azure, and distributed applications with Docker.
